Malky Mackay replaced Dave Jones as Cardiff City manager on 17 June

Malky Mackay has confirmed former France Under-19 international striker Rudy Gestede as his ninth signing as Cardiff City boss.

Gestede, 22, a trialist who scored in Cardiff's pre-season win over Charlton, joins Kenny Miller as their latest recruits.

He underwent a medical ahead of a free transfer from French club Metz.

Miller and Gestede joined before Tuesday's pre-season friendly at Yeovil.

Strikers Joe Mason and Robert Earnshaw, defender Andrew Taylor, winger Craig Conway and midfielders Filip Kiss, Don Cowie and Aron Gunnarsson have all joined Cardiff since Mackay was appointed as Dave Jones' successor on 17 June.

Miller has passed his medical and agreed personal terms following his move frrom Turkish side Bursaspor but the Championship side are awaiting international clearance.

The Bluebirds must also await the Football League's approval before Gestede's arrival is finalised.

And Mackay added: "He is 6ft 3ins, he is an aerial presence and has a bit of pace.

"He is young and is learning, but there is certainly a lot of potential there and you don't play for France's Under-19 team for no reason."

Cardiff lost 12 players following their Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Reading so Mackay has had a huge rebuilding job at the Cardiff City Stadium.

And the Scot has admitted he would like to sign a total of 12 new faces before the end of the transfer window on 31 August, but preferably ahead of their Championship opener at West Ham United on 7 August.
