Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton still has his sights set on making a few additions to his squad ahead of the Championship and Europa League season.
After losing several key players the former Newcastle boss, 52, knows he needs to strengthen most positions.
"There are more games in this division and ahead of hopefully a European campaign as well that means the games mount up," Hughton told BBC WM.
"We want to be competitive, that's the important thing."
Roger Johnson and Barry Ferguson were the latest players to leave St Andrew's last week, part of a mass exodus that has followed relegation from the Premier League.
The future of centre-back Scott Dann and England goalkeeper Ben Foster remain up in the air.
"We know it's going to be a challenge, I think we are probably in a position the same as a lot of clubs," Hughton acknowledged.
"We prefer not to speak about targets but we need to make sure we remain competitive at the right end of the table, and make sure we have a squad that's capable of that."
