Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido has moved to reassure fans following Saturday's embarrassing 4-0 pre-season friendly defeat against Tamworth.
"It was humiliating," Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby. "It was a horrendous performance and I can understand the frustration and disappointment.
"But we have not lost three points. Now is not about results.
"I know it sounds like an excuse but this is about fitness. This is about peaking for the start of the season."
Peschisolido added: "The 6 August is when we start to worry about results.
"There is no point in beating Tamworth 5-0 and getting stuffed by Torquay [opening game of the season]. We have to prepare ourselves properly. Yes, it is disappointing but it is merely a pre-season friendly.
"We have two weeks where we can work on things and fine tune and prepare."
