Macclesfield Town captain Paul Morgan will not be fit in time for their opening League Two fixture against Dagenham and Redbridge.

The 32-year-old centre-back has been out since breaking his arm in March.

"Paul's been training hard and has joined in the practice matches we've had," said manager Gary Simpson.

"But he's not ready for the cut and thrust of a competitive game just yet as they are still assessing how well his arm and wrist have recovered."

The Northern Irishman came through the ranks at Preston North End and has also had spells at Lincoln and Bury.

Despite being able to train Simpson added that it could be a while before Morgan makes his first-team return due to complications with his arm healing.

"He's due to see the consultant shortly and there's talk of perhaps putting in another plate, but if that doesn't happen we'll look at some sort of protective cast," he continued.

"Morgan is obviously a key player for us at the back and it would be great to have him available for selection as soon as possible, but that's unlikely to be for several weeks yet."
