Tranmere 1-0 Chesterfield

Tranmere fought hard for victory over a stubborn Chesterfield to record a first opening day win in five seasons.

Both sides had chances before the break with Mustafa Tiryaki causing problems for the visitors.

Robbie Weir's goal came in the 73rd minute when he slid the ball under keeper Tommy Lee from a tight angle after a quick throw-in.

Adam McGurk, tireless on the left wing, was denied a penalty late on before Joss Labadie squandered a great chance.
