Barnsley were knocked out of the Carling Cup as Morecambe pulled off a first-round upset at Oakwell.
The League Two side ruined Tykes boss Keith Hill's first home game as goals from Danny Carlton and Kevin Ellison saw the League Two side to victory.
The home side had plenty of chances but were unable to make any of them count.
However, Carlton made no mistake to convert a cross from close range before later crossing for Ellison to drill the ball into the top corner from 12 yards.
Early in the game, Ricardo Vaz Te, making his debut, brought the first save of the night from Morecambe keeper Barry Roche with a 25-yard volley.
Jacob Butterfield then forced a fine stop from Roche with a shot from distance.
Vaz Te flashed a 25-yard effort wide, sent a header over the bar and brought a great save from Roche as the Tykes also made a strong start to the second half.
The home side were made to pay for their wastefulness as Morecambe struck through Carlton in the 49th minute.
Barnsley pushed for an equaliser but were thwarted by a committed visiting side, who sealed their progress to round two when Ellison fired home in the 86th minute.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I was expecting us to win the match.
"Football is a game of decisions, good and bad. We've made some bad decisions tonight as players and as a manager.
"I've got to expect responsibility, but I did expect that. "
Morcambe manager Jim Bentley told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"I'm absolutely made up, it's a great win for us this evening having come into it on the back of a defeat.
"I said to the lads before the game that Saturday is gone, there is nothing you can do about it.
"The lads put a shift in and I'm made up for the supporters who travelled over - it's a great evening for everyone connected with the club."
