Preston have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of defender Brian McLean.
The 26-year-old impressed in four pre-season matches on trial after leaving Falkirk at the end of last season.
Manager Phil Brown told the club website: "For me it was a welcome addition and Brian has definite attributes that we can work with.
"I think his versatility was important, his main position is centre-back but he can also play at full-back."
Brown continued: "He has ticked all the boxes as far as I am concerned, the only one that was doubtful was whether the contract was going to be right for both parties.
"Now that Brian has accepted the deal I am looking forward to getting my teeth into working with him in a really tight back four," the Preston boss added.
Preston have also confirmed that they expect to make further signings before the League One season kicks off on 6 August.
Chairman Maurice Lindsay told the club website: "Brian almost certainly won't be the last player we sign before the commencement of the season.
"It is always frustrating for the fans when we cannot announce signings such as this earlier in the close season but it is not always simple and straightforward.
"We are delighted that Brian has joined us and we are still in discussions with other players, but we are waiting for other clubs to agree the arrangements."
