Tranmere Rovers winger Martin Devaney is eager to get started at his new club and is hoping for a season to remember.
The 31-year-old moved to Prenton Park after his release from Barnsley.
"I've read what the gaffer said about getting near the play-offs and that's what I want to do," Devaney told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"I want to be successful, I haven't come here to sit mid-table, I've come to get in the top half and try and get promotion back into the Championship."
He added: "I feel I belong there and hopefully this club will be as well."
Devaney made his first appearance for Rovers during Tuesday's 2-0 win over a Liverpool XI at Prenton Park and was glad to get on the pitch again.
"I was just pleased to put the shirt on and play 45 minutes against Liverpool and I'm looking forward to the beginning of the season," said Devaney.
"It was good and I haven't played for a while but I thoroughly enjoyed it tonight. I'm focused on preparing right for Saturday."
Tranmere start their League One campaign at home to Chesterfield on Saturday, 6 August.
