Bristol City have re-signed West Ham defender Jordan Spence on a season-long loan deal.
Spence, who signed a three-year deal with the Hammers in the summer, spent two months on loan at Ashton Gate last season and made 11 appearances.
His parent club have the option of recalling him from January.
"It wasn't a reluctant thing to come back, it was a great opportunity and I'm ecstatic to be back," the 21-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.
"It's an environment I've enjoyed, that I can learn and get better in.
"I have the ambition to be a West Ham player and be in the starting XI but I also have the ambition to play from the start of the season.
"When I realised that might not be the case at West Ham, I jumped at the opportunity to come back here."
Spence goes straight into the squad for Saturday's Championship opener at home to Ipswich Town.
