Marvin Emnes signs three-year Middlesbrough extension

Emnes scored twice in five games on loan at Swansea last year, including a crucial goal against rivals Cardiff

Middlesbrough winger Marvin Emnes has signed a three-year extension to his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.

The deal comes amid speculation linking the 23-year-old with a return to Swansea, where he impressed during a one-month loan last term.

"After his successful loan spell with Swansea, Marvin came back and made a huge impact," boss Tony Mowbray said.

"He can be a big player for us again this year."

Mowbray added: "It is a major boost for us that he wants to be part of our future and achieve his ambitions with Middlesbrough."

Emnes was signed by former Boro boss Gareth Southgate in July 2008 for a fee of £3.5m from Sparta Rotterdam, and has made 62 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.
