Glenavon 1-2 Linfield

Goals from Jamie Mulgrew and Nathan Hanley saw champions Linfield come from behind to beat Glenavon in an action-packed contest at Mourneview.

Former Queen's player David Magee shot Glenavon ahead in the fourth minute but Mulgrew side-footed the equaliser.

Glenavon's Ryan Harpur and Robert Garrett of Linfield were sent-off on 35 minutes for going in high when going for the ball in midfield.

Hanley stroked in the winner in the 35th minute.

Chris Casement's free-kick from the right was laid off by Mark McAllister for Hanley to net with a pinpoint finish.

In the first half, Glenavon's Niall Henderson hit the post and Daryl Fordyce of Linfield saw his header brilliantly cleared off the line by Mark Haughey.

"I am very pleased, it was a hard fought victory," said Blues boss David Jeffrey.

"Famously, we are are not very good starters, winning just twice on the opening day in 10 seasons."
