Matty Fryatt struck late in the game to earn Hull their first win of the season as they beat Ipswich.
The decider came after 77 minutes when the hosts' defence stood off to allow Fryatt to shoot past David Stockdale.
Damien Delaney went closest for Ipswich when his header before half-time hit the bar, and Peter Gulacsi also brilliantly saved Mark Kennedy's shot.
Stockdale had earlier denied Fryatt and Robert Koren but he could do nothing about the winner.
Lee Martin had a fantastic chance to equalise within moments, but his header from Carlos Edwards' measured cross was directed straight at Gulacsi.
The victory allowed Nigel Pearson's side to bounce back from consecutive losses, including an embarrassing 2-0 home defeat against League Two Macclesfield in the Carling Cup.
Paul Jewell's side, meanwhile, will have to regroup before they face Southampton, who have won both of their first games following promotion from League One.
