Scunthorpe and Preston remain winless in the league after Andy Barcham rescued a point for the hosts.
Iain Hume lashed the visitors ahead early on with a powerful shot from 25 yards out.
Barry Nicholson twice went close as the hosts struggled to get a foothold in the game.
With time running out the Iron secured a share of the spoils when Barcham's curled effort beat Lillywhites keeper Iain Turner.

Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:
"We were quite good value today so I'm delighted.
"I thought we were a match for Preston and caused them more problems than they caused us.
"Obviously we'd have liked three points but if you can't get the three points you don't lose and we didn't lose"
