Terry Butcher relief at Inverness draw at Dunfermline

Butcher was hopping mad at his team at times at East End Park

Inverness manager Terry Butcher says his team were so poor in their 3-3 draw with Dunfermline that he is frightened to look at the game again on TV.

"I have been handed the DVD of the game and I will look at that from behind the sofa," he told BBC Scotland.

"I will need a couple of drinks to have a look at that one again, that's for sure. We have been very lucky.

"Dunfermline will be disappointed that they only got the point because their play probably warranted three."

The Pars went ahead twice through Andy Kirk before Jonny Hayes and Greg Tansey's second of the game looked to have won it for Caley Thistle.

But Martin Hardie's stoppage-time free-kick secured a point for Dunfermline.

"At half-time, I would have been delighted with the point," said Butcher.

"But, when you are 3-2 up and have played poorly, you think 'let's get the points', but it wasn't to be, although we have enough experience out there to see out the game.

"We are bitterly disappointed with our first-half performance especially.

"Dunfermline were quicker to the ball and hassled us throughout the pitch and we were fortunate to be only 1-0 down.

"We've been nowhere near the standards that we set before, but have got a point out of the game and scored three goals."

There was no consolation for Butcher in being involved in such an exciting game.

"It wasn't a fabulous watch for me even when we were 3-2 up," he said.

"We were defending poorly and we looked like we could attack at will and score more goals.

"It was end-to-end stuff for the neutrals, it was wow, six goals and it looked like it could be a lot more."

Butcher, who has made a number of summer signings, said it was obvious that his side is in transition compared to promoted Dunfermline.

"We've changed the team radically, while you can see the cohesion in the Dunfermline side, but we'll get there," he insisted.

However, the manager praised several of his summer arrivals and picked out Tansey in particular for his two goals.

"He has been unlucky," suggested Butcher. "He has hit the woodwork at Fir Park and at our ground against Hibs and this time he has come up trumps.

"He's a wonderful player and we just need to get more out of other players as well."
