Martin Ling thrilled by Lee Mansell's goals for Torquay
Torquay United manager Martin Ling has praised skipper Lee Mansell after he scored in his second successive game.
The Gulls' longest-serving player had only scored seven goals in five years before the start of this season.
And while Mansell's defensive qualities are well known - he has spent much of his time at right-back - Ling believes he is good going forward as well.
"He's the fittest player at our football club, so why can't he go box to box?" Ling told BBC Radio Devon.
"I wouldn't want to mark him week-in week-out because he can do both sides of the game.
"His defensive qualities are always seen as his better qualities, I just think that for me he can score goals and he's proved that."
And Ling says he expects all his midfield players to score goals.
"With the way I play the game they've got freedom to get into the box and he's got into the box on numerous occasions," Ling added.
"I just feel that as a central midfield player you should be pushing on for eight goals, whether it's Lee Mansell of Eunan O'Kane."
