Carlisle United have signed full-back James Tavernier from Newcastle United on a one-month loan deal, with Frank Simek sidelined with a torn muscle.
The 19-year-old, who enjoyed a successful spell at Gateshead last term, comes into the squad with Simek out for up to eight weeks.
"James is a very good player who we have known about for a while," United boss Greg Abbott told the club website.
"We need cover in that area and he is a strong defender who can play football."
Tavernier, who started his career with Leeds as an apprentice, has made two League Cup appearances for the Magpies first team.
