Sheffield Wednesday have signed midfielder Chris Lines from Bristol Rovers for £50,000.

The Bristol-born 25-year-old has spent his entire career at the Memorial Stadium and made 190 appearances, scoring 23 goals.

He still had two and a half years remaining on his contract at Rovers.

"I'm pleased because we tried to get him a few months ago and couldn't do it," Wednesday manager Gary Megson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"In terms of a midfielder, he's different to what we've already got.

"He scored 14 goals the season before last. Last season he didn't do so well in terms of his goalscoring but we know if he can do it once he can do it again."

Lines wrote on Twitterexternal-link on Thursday night: "Thanks for all the amazing messages from BRFC fans. Gutted to leave but have to do what's best for my footballing career - you guys are amazing.

"Also a massive thanks to all of the SWFC fans that have sent some amazing welcome messages. Roll on first session tomorrow and a win on Saturday."
