Former Germany captain Birgit Prinz has retired from women's football after a glittering career.
The 33-year-old, who won two World Cups and five European titles, decided to call it a day just weeks after quitting the national team.
"This has not been an easy decision for me," said Prinz, who was under contract with FFC Frankfurt.
"Playing football has always been a passion of mine but now feels like the right moment."
One of the biggest stars in the game, Prinz scored 128 goals in 214 international appearances.
However, she became less influential in recent months and was dropped to the bench during the World Cup in her home country this summer.
The three-time World Player of the Year netted 14 times in World Cups, a record she shares with Brazilian Marta.
