Bristol City 0-0 Portsmouth

Neil Kilkenny had a goal disallowed as Bristol City were held to a goalless draw by Portsmouth.

The Australian thought he had scored when he bundled home, but was adjudged to have fouled Pompey goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown.

Steve Cotterill's visitors came close to scoring late on but Luke Varney saw his shot rebound off the post.

In a game of few chances, both sides failed to build on their first victories of the season in midweek.

City had the better of the opening exchanges with Albert Adomah working Ashdown early on and it was not until the 17th minute that Portsmouth threatened with Greg Halford shooting over.

A header from Dave Kitson, fresh from scoring the winner in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over former club Reading, also did not find the target.

Liam Lawrence tested Dean Gerken from 25 yards, before the hosts went up the other end and a 20-yard effort from Kilkenny whistled wide.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce was denied by Ashdown before Kilkenny found the net after 65 minutes but the referee judged that the midfielder had fouled the keeper.

Pompey responded and, on 72 minutes, Varney was unlucky not to net his first goal for the club when he saw his curling shot from the edge of the box rebound off the post.

The misfiring Kitson then wasted another chance, this time shooting over from six yards.

Benjani, introduced for Kanu in the second half, had a chance late on but headed a Hayden Mullins cross over the bar from 12 yards.
