Scott Davies grabbed his first Crawley goal to help his side to victory over Torquay and to top spot in League Two.
Crawley went ahead when Dean Howell's free-kick bounced off the wall and fell to Davies, who flicked the ball up and volleyed home from 25 yards out.
Charlie Wassmer's header from a Davies corner made it 2-0 before Josh Simpson extended the lead with another header, this time from Howell's fine cross.
Lee Mansell grabbed a consolation for the Gulls as he bundled the ball in.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Torquay manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon:
"First half they were the better side by far.
"Crawley are favourites for this league and rightly so on this performance.
"I don't think any of my players pulled out of a challenge, but I just think some of my players didn't do as well as they possibly could on the ball."
Crawley boss Steve Evans told BBC Sussex:
"It was dominant, wasn't it? If the score had been seven or eight to us it would have been justice. It's a difficult place to come but the boys produced an outstanding performance.
"They'll take the plaudits tonight. The boys work so hard, and if we play as well as we did today, we'll have an outstanding season.
"But we won't get carried away. This is a marathon, not a sprint."
