Magpies substitute Craig Westcarr missed a late chance to equalise before Neil Bishop was sent off for a second bookable offence.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I'm really pleased with the goals that we got because it wasn't hack it, whack it and hope something will happen for us.
"The only disappointment was that we went one goal down at half time.
"In terms of character, I can't remember me being here, coming back from a goal and winning."
Notts County manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"After the couple of results they had it was always going to be a difficult game coming here.
"But I thought our players acquitted themselves very well. We had some individuals make some very, very good performances. A couple of them perhaps weren't at the races as best as they could have been but that will be private.
"But overall there is a tinge of disappointment we didn't get at least a draw because we really did play some good football."
