Aron Gunnarsson will sit out the next two Championship games as the Cardiff City midfielder has a twisted ankle.
The Iceland international limped out of Cardiff's 3-1 league win over Bristol City on Sunday in the 10th minute.
The 22-year-old will miss Brighton's visit to Cardiff on Wednesday and the trip to Burnley on Saturday.
"He should be about a week or so," confirmed Cardiff boss Malky Mackay. "It's not as bad as we thought it would be considering the way he limped off."
Gunnarsson could return for the Carling Cup home tie with Huddersfield on 23 August - but he may have to wait for the following league trip to Portsmouth on 27 August.
Stephen McPhail remains sidelined with the virus that ruled him out of the win over Bristol City, while Darcy Blake is also likely to sit out the Brighton match.
Joe Mason replaced Gunnarsson at the Cardiff City Stadium and the 20-year-old Irishman set up Craig Conway for Cardiff's second goal against Bristol City.
The result saw Cardiff take early pride of place at the top of the Championship following their opening weekend win at promotion favourites West Ham United.
Gunnarsson was one of nine summer signings by Mackay after 12 players left following Cardiff's failed play-off campaign last season.
