Burnley 3-2 Barnet (aet)

Jay Rodriguez scored his fifth Carling Cup goal of the season as Burnley edged into the third round with an extra-time win over Barnet.

The striker, who scored four against Burton in the previous round, headed the Clarets into a first-half lead.

Wade Elliott added a second with a well-placed shot in the area but Barnet hit back through substitute Steve Kabba and Ricky Holmes in stoppage time.

Chris McCann grabbed the winner with a shot into the top corner of the net.

McCann had been dropped to the bench by Burnley boss Eddie Howe, the only change to the side that drew with Cardiff on Saturday, and the hosts started brightly with Kieran Trippier dragging a shot just wide before Jason Price missed a chance for Barnet.

Rodriguez, the Clarets' player of last season, opened the scoring in the 38th minute when he deflected home a Trippier cross.

Then Wade Elliott fired Burnley 2-0 ahead in the 64th minute after some clever footwork in the box and a well-place shot.

But Barnet hit back with veteran striker Kabba, on as a 73rd-minute replacement for Price, sliding in at the far post to reduce the deficit from a Mark Marshall cross.

And, after Rodriguez had missed for the Clarets from close range, Barnet forced extra time in dramatic fashion when another substitute, Ricky Holmes, prodded

home the equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Burnley finally settled in the extra period with McCann - on at the end of normal time for Keith Treacy - nudging them back in front before Trippier, Zavon

Hines and Ross Wallace all missed chances to make it four.
