Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss has blamed defensive lapses for Tuesday's 3-1 defeat by York City in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
Bayliss was angered by all three goals in a defeat which saw the Bluebirds slip down to 18th in the table after two games of the new season.
"We need to give ourselves a chance in these games of football," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"If we defend like that and switch off, then we'll get beaten every week."
Bayliss added: "York will be made up with their goals and think it was good play by them, but from our point of view it's poor play by us.
"We could have done better, all three goals came from our ball, so it's really disappointing."
One bright point for Bayliss was the continuing good form of summer signing Adam Boyes, who notched Barrow's consolation.
The 20-year-old, who also struck on his debut against Tamworth on Saturday, joined the club following his departure from Boston United at the end of last season.
"I thought he was fantastic tonight, head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch," Bayliss added.
"He's a real striker, he doesn't just play at home like some strikers have done in the past, he'll come away and battle and he's done that again tonight.
"Home and away he's been superb for us."
