Gateshead boss Ian Bogie says the club rejected a bid from Luton Town to sign Jon Shaw, and has ruled out a departure for the player this term.
Shaw, 27, scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Tynesiders last season, following a move from Mansfield Town in May 2010.
"We had a bid for Jon Shaw, which we've dismissed," Bogie told BBC Newcastle.
"Jon's a key player for us, top goalscorer for us last season, and they're hard to come by."
Bogie added: "He's a Gateshead player until the end of the season and it's as simple as that."
Shaw was on the scoresheet in Tuesday's 3-0 win over former club Mansfield, as was Yemi Odubade, who opened his account with a fine individual goal in the same game.
"That's what we bought Yemi to the club for," Bogie continued.
"He's a proven goalscorer in the Conference and people who play at any level with electrifying pace like Yemi showed tonight are a threat and a danger to any opponent.
"They were terrified every time he got the ball."
