A first-half brace from Steve Guinan gave Kidderminster victory at Cambridge.
The striker fired home the first from 12 yards and four minutes later he was left unmarked to head in a Callum Gittings corner.
Cambridge substitute Michael Gash pulled a goal back with his first touch, sweeping in from close range.
Conal Platt fired just wide in the final minute as the home side slipped to a first defeat of the season.
POST-MATCH VERDICT
Kidderminster assistant manager Gary Whild told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"We are pleased after the first set of games with our return.
"We can keep improving. We said that after the first game against Gateshead.
"We were a bit untidy with the ball at Cambridge but we will get better at that."
