Hartlepool picked up their first victory of the season at Rochdale, who are still without a win in League One.
The visitors had drawn their previous four league matches and took the lead early on when Steve Haslam's cross was headed in by Adam Boyd.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro volleyed Rochdale level before James Poole restored Hartlepool's advantage from 20 yards.
And Poole sealed the win, netting his second with four minutes remaining after latching onto Paul Murray's pass.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Rochdale manager Steve Eyre told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I think all the results and performances up to now have been fair and square, including this one today.
"We're not giving ourselves a chance in games at the moment as we're not doing the ugly things well, and not being as good as the opposition in both penalty areas.
"Both teams wanted three points, it was crucial we scored first and that absolutely changed the game twice."
