Rene Howe's late penalty earned Torquay a point against Dagenham and Redbridge.
The Daggers took a deserved lead as Jon Nurse picked out Sam Williams and his looping header went past Bobby Olejnik.
Torquay improved after the break and Howe, Ian Morris and Eunan O'Kane all had shots on target but were denied by goalkeeper Chris Lewington.
They finally grabbed the equaliser when Mark Arber was adjudged to have fouled Billy Bodin and Howe stepped up to score from the spot.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Torquay United Manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon:
"It was from the ridiculous to the sublime. We were poor first half and I really let myself go at half-time because I just didn't think we got going.
"We were second to second balls, we were not passing with the purpose that we asked for and I just said to them 'they'll be some questions asked of you now have you got the answers?'.
"I think the second half proved they have got the answers and I'm not asking things of them that they can't do."
