Preston goalkeeper Iain Turner was an unlikely scorer as his side secured a late win over Notts County.
North End were the better side throughtout with Jamie Proctor going close with a half-volley.
Brian McLean rose highest to head the home side into the lead from Paul Parry's corner.
Home keeper Turner sealed the win with a kick from his own area which bounced over his opposite number Stuart Nelson, under pressure from Neil Mellor.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Notts County manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"I think the team played much, much better than they did at Sheffield (Wednesday). I thought we were superb to be honest.
"We restricted Preston to one 25-yard shot where our keeper did have to make a save.
"The rest of it, we've had good opportunities, good chances, got in good areas in the final third.
"To come here and do that with two people making their debut was absolutely terrific."
