Southport captain Alan Moogan says his side can improve their form despite their tough start start to the new Blue Square Bet Premier season.

The Sandgrounders have just two points from their opening four league games.

"If you look at the start we've had, it's been a difficult one," Moogan told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"Gateshead are flying and we've played Luton and Lincoln. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can gel more and get that result we've been looking for."

Tuesday's 3-1 defeat by Gateshead was the second loss in the space of a few days, following Saturday's 5-1 collapse at Luton Town.

Southport are looking for their first victory of the season away to Kidderminster on Saturday, and Moogan believes their fortunes will improve.

"We want to win every game we play in and obviously we'd rather be further up the league," continued the former Everton trainee.

"But as it stands, we are where we are because we deserve to be there. We'll try our very best to improve ourselves.

"You've got to look at the game you're playing next and Kidderminster is the same, it'll be a tough game. We've got lads in there who will show good character.

"Hopefully we'll re-group and kick-start our season."
