Kettering and Cambridge shared the points as a game of few chances finished goalless.
Tom Shaw saw his shot come back off the post for the U's in the first half, while at the other end Moses Ashikodi headed tamely at Danny Naisbitt.
Cambridge finished strongly as Ashley Carew forced a save from Lawrie Walker, while Shaw hit the post for a second time with a volley from 12 yards.
But the Poppies almost snatched it in injury time when Jerel Ifil fired over.
