Colchester battled back to earn a point against 10-man Scunthorpe.
Bobby Grant gave the Iron the lead when he tapped home from a corner before being sent off shortly afterwards for a second bookable offence.
Colchester equalised 15 minutes from time when substitute Steve Gillespie steered a shot past Josh Lillis.
Andy Barcham almost snatched a late winner for the hosts but keeper Mark Cousins made a fine save to continue the Iron's winless start to the season.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:
"It's a point gained considering the circumstances (but) we'd have liked three.
"Even with 10 men I didn't think they troubled us too much and a lapse in concentration has cost us again.
"I thought with 10 men we still tried to go forward and I thought we took the game to them."
