Northampton came from 2-0 down to rescue a point at Southend and end their five-game losing streak.
Bilel Mohsni scored the opener from 35 yards and Ryan Hall doubled their lead with a 25-yard rocket.
But a minute later, the visitors were back in it when Adebayo Akinfenwa swivelled on the spot to blast home.
Arron Davies fired into the centre of the goal from 12 yards out to save a point before the Cobblers' Nick McKoy was sent off for two bookings.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Cobblers assistant manager David Lee told BBC Radio Northampton:
"We showed a lot of character at 2-0 down, scored two excellent goals, there's a lot of resilience in that dressing room.
"Sometimes when you're 2-0 down, you play with no fear. They don't know when they're beaten.
"This could be the turning point for us."
