Gateshead 2-0 Alfreton Town

Midfielder Kris Gate scored twice as Gateshead beat Alfreton to remain unbeaten in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Gate followed up on the hour-mark after Chris Moore's effort from the edge of the area was saved by Dan Lowson.

Jamie Mullan could have levelled moments later but his fierce shot hit the post.

And Gate sealed the win, firing home off the crossbar after good work from Moore down in the left wing.

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Gateshead boss Ian Bogie told BBC Newcastle:

"We were very poor in the first half, we never got started and were second best in every department, Alfreton were unfortunate not to be ahead at the interval.

"It was a bit of a reality check for our players, teams are coming here and making it very difficult, and they'll go away and feel they should have got something ourselves.

"We've banked on Kris Gate scoring a couple of goals from midfield, and great work from Chris Moore."
