Thigh injury sidelines Hartlepool defender Evan Horwood

Hartlepool United first-team coach Mick Wadsworth has revealed defender Evan Horwood faces a spell on the sidelines after aggravating a thigh injury.

Horwood, 25, has been ever-present for Pools this season but has been withdrawn from Saturday's visit of Exeter City on medical advice.

"He's shown great spirit to play but has had a problem with the thigh," Wadsworth told BBC Tees.

"The medical guys think he needs to miss two games for it to clear up."

Wadsworth added: "We'll probably miss Evan for a couple of weeks."

The Pools-born defender joined the club from Carlisle United in July 2010, and has since made 55 appearances, scoring three goals.

Meanwhile Wadsworth, who said he is considering an offer to sign defender Stephen Wright, welcomed a break from midweek football after a run of seven games in the first four weeks of the season.

Pools have just one midweek encounter in their schedule during September, with the visit of Preston on 13 September.

"It means we can do a lot more work on the training ground, which is more than welcome," Wadsworth said.

"Each week, instead of fighting to get a player fit in two or three days and having to cut corners, it gives you a bit more time for the medical team to do their work.

"In that sense it is a welcome break from that frenetic programme."
