Braintree Town midfielder Bradley Quinton believes the Essex team are adapting well to life in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
The Iron are 12th in the table after their opening six matches and host Lincoln City on Saturday.
Quinton told BBC Essex he has not noticed a huge change in the step-up: "Ability-wise, I don't really see a massive difference.
"Possibly, 15 minutes before the end, the fitness does tell."
He added: "I think you get punished if you don't put away your chances, or you make a silly error. That's the major difference."
The Iron are competing in the division for the first time in their history after winning the Blue Square Bet South last season.
