Ballymena Utd 1-2 Linfield

Linfield moved two points clear at the top of the Premiership thanks to their fifth win out of six league games.

Michael Carvill found the net with a 20-yard sidefooted shot into the top corner on the half hour.

The Blues twice hit the woodwork before Robert Garrett's indirect free-kick from inside the penalty area was deflected in off Denver Gage.

Gary McCutcheon pulled a goal back late on by nodding home after Alan Blayney dropped the ball into his path.

Allan Jenkins curled an effort wide of the post early in the game and then Dwayne Nelson made a brilliant save from Robert Garrett's free-kick.

David Armstrong headed wide from a corner before Carvill's superb strike broke the deadlock.

Garrett's long-range shot grazed the bar and just before half-time Jenkins saw his goalbound header cleared off the line by Jim Ervin.

After the interval, Carvill's shot hit the inside of the post and Rory Patterson hit the underside of the bar with a well-struck effort.

The Blues added their second and then Aaron Stewart provided the cross from which McCutcheon ultimately netted a consolation.
