Colchester United striker Steven Gillespie hopes his first League One goal of the season will lead to a place in the starting XI.
The 26-year-old came off the bench to score the equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe.
He told BBC Essex: "I want to be starting games, and hopefully that will push my case a little bit more.
"All you can do is try and take the opportunities when given them. I'll be looking for as many starts as I can."
Boss John Ward added: "There was always a case for Steven to come on reasonably early into the second period of the game.
"He's had the one chance he's fashioned out there, he will have opportunities to score and thankfully he's put it away."
Gillespie also found the net as a substitute in the Carling Cup first-round match at Wycombe last month.
The U's record signing missed the first half of last season through injury, but ended the campaign with nine goals in just 18 appearances.
