Oxford United swoop for Bury's Andy Haworth

Oxford United have signed Bury winger Andy Haworth on a one-month loan.

United made their move for the 22-year-old after injured Jonathan Franks returned to parent club Middlesbrough and the U's decided not to extend Lewis Guy's spell from MK Dons.

Haworth helped Bury win promotion to League One last season, making 45 appearances in total, and he has played seven times so far this season.

"I'm really looking forward to my time with Oxford United," he said.

"I came down this morning and been straight into training, which went well.

"I hope to be involved tomorrow [against Barnet] and play my part. The club has fantastic facilities and a good reputation and I hope to be setting up some goals and getting on the scoresheet."

Franks has gone back to Boro after undergoing surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

The 21-year-old, who was on loan until January, was injured during the 1-1 behind-closed-doors friendly draw with Bristol City and is out for six to 12 weeks.

He has only made six appearances, all for Boro, since May 2010, partly because of a recurring back problem.

Meanwhile, Guy, 26, has left the U's after scoring one goal in seven games during his month at the club.
