Mansfield players rush to congratulate Louis Briscoe

Louis Briscoe scored twice as Mansfield Town moved up to third in the Blue Square Bet Premier table with a thumping win over lowly Newport County.

Matthew Green slotted the opener from Briscoe's pass and Briscoe fired home the second from the edge of the box.

Briscoe then teed up Ross Dyer, whose close-range finish made it 3-0 after the break and the outstanding Briscoe volleyed in the fourth from 20 yards.

Luke O'Neill sealed the win, smashing in the fifth from another Briscoe pass.

The defeat was Newport's fourth consecutive league loss and they are now fourth from bottom in the table.
