Derby County defender Jake Buxton is unlikely to play for at least three weeks after fracturing an eye socket.
Centre-half Buxton, who joined in May 2009, suffered the injury in training and will have an operation on Thursday.
The 26-year-old only played one game last term because of a groin injury but returned to action in the close season.
The former Mansfield man played for Rams boss Nigel Clough at Burton Albion and made 24 appearances in his first season at Pride Park in 2009-2010.
