Scott Parker says he moved to Tottenham to boost his international career - and has set his sights on helping his new club back into the Champions League.
Spurs paid £5m to take the midfielder from West Ham and he is set to make his debut in Saturday's trip to Wolves.
"I felt that, at my age, I couldn't be playing at Championship level and I needed to be playing in the Premier League," said Parker.
"I think Spurs have to be aiming for fourth spot this season."
Parker, who was named the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year last season, has enjoyed a whirlwind seven days after starring for England in their 3-0 victory over Bulgaria before being dropped to the bench for the defeat of Wales.
The 30-year-old is delighted to be an integral member of Fabio Capello's squad ahead of next summer's European Championships, and believes his move to White Hart Lane will further his development.
"It has been a great week," said Parker. "Obviously I am a little bit disappointed that I didn't play against Wales at Wembley but I am really happy that I am part of the England team at the moment and pushing for a chance to be playing.
"The last six months has been massive for me internationally. I want to do everything I can to get into the team for the European Championships next year."
Parker's former club West Ham are now facing up to life without their talismanic skipper, but the player himself believes the Hammers have a fantastic chance of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
"I think West Ham have got a fantastic squad and I am quite sure they will be in the Premier League next year," he added.
