Allan Johnston's 51st-minute goal gave bottom club Queen of the South their first league win of the season against previously high-flying Hamilton.
Hamilton keeper Tomas Cerny saved well from Stephen McKenna's early header.
Gus MacPherson's forced a breakthrough when Johnston headed home from 12 yards following good work from Alan Reid.
Substitute Nicky Clark thought he had doubled his side's lead moments before the full-time whistle but his strike rattled the crossbar.
