Steven Connors has won an appeal against his dismissal from Cambridge United in July.
The Football Conference has ruled the U's did not have grounds to terminate the midfielder's contract, five weeks after he joined the club.
Cambridge said they sacked the 25-year-old because he witheld knowledge of a pre-existing groing injury.
In a statement the club said they were "stunned" and would appeal against the decision with the Football Association.
"No further comment will be made until the appeal procedure has been completed," the statement added.
Cambridge have seven days in which to lodge their appeal.
Connors told the Cambridge News: "I just need to reflect on it, but I don't want to comment further."
