Goals from Arron Davies and Adebayo Akinfenwa helped Northampton secure their first home win of the season against Dagenham.
The Cobblers took the lead after 16 minutes when Davies forced the ball home after John Johnson and Akinfenwa had seen their efforts blocked.
Akinfenwa doubled their lead on the hour, heading in Michael Jacobs' cross at the back post.
Dagenham's Oliver Lee grabbed a late consolation from Jon Nurse's low cross.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Northampton Town manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Northampton:
"Somebody said you can win ugly but I don't send them out to win ugly.
"It was great to win that first game for our home fans and the three points were massive for us.
"It wasn't a classic performance. It wasn't a Barcelona performance but it was a solid one."
