Crewe 1-1 Port Vale

Tom Pope's equaliser gave Port Vale a hard-earned draw away to local rivals Crewe Alexandra.

Pope had a chance for Vale when he got his head on to a Doug Loft corner, but it was well saved by Steve Phillips.

Crewe took the lead when Byron Moore dribbled into the area and fired home past Stuart Tomlinson.

The visitors drew level when Rob Kozluk's long throw found its way to Pope who slotted home, but neither side could find a winner in a frantic game.

Crewe manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke:

"I thought it was a good game, especially in the first half, but we didn't play as well in the second half and they attacked for long periods.

"They threw a lot of balls into the box like Accrington did last week and we coped very well, but in the end we didn't mark properly from a long throw.

"After they'd scored, I would have settled for a point because the impetus was with them."

Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:

"I thought it was a cracking game and the pace of it was tremendous.

"I think we've caused them more problems than they've caused us, our final ball let us down at times, but we were on the front foot for most of the game.

"They've had one shot in the second half, which is the story of our season so far, but it's a hard-earned point."
