Iyseden Christie scored a re-taken penalty as Tamworth held Blue Square Bet Premier table-toppers Gateshead.
The hosts dominated the first half and took the lead when defender James Curtis converted Jon Shaw's cross with a glancing header.
But they were sloppy after the break and Tamworth had their chance to level when Gary Mulligan handed in the box.
Paul Farman saved Christie's original kick, but had stepped off his line and the striker powered home the re-take.
