Manager Stuart McCall admits Motherwell were not at their best but thought they deserved a 1-0 win at home to Aberdeen.
Substitute Bob McHugh netted the vital goal late on to cement the Steelmen's grip on third place in the Scottish Premier League.
"I'm delighted with where we are and with the points we've got and hopefully we can keep amassing them," McCall told BBC Radio Scotland.
"We hit the woodwork twice and I think overall we just about edged it."
Chris Humphrey and Tim Clancy hit the crossbar in either half, although the match at Fir Park was low on goalmouth action.
"Aberdeen gave us a really tough test and we defended really well because they have got a lot of players who are six foot plus," added McCall.
"It was a hard shift after a hard week and the pressure was on to win.
"We didn't play our best football but we showed up well in periods. Sometimes things weren't going so well but the lads dug in.
"There's not a lot in this league. You take out the Old Firm and possibly Hearts, and everyone can beat everyone."
McHugh struck the winner on 84 minutes, latching on to a clearance following an Aberdeen corner and coolly slotting past goalkeeper David Gonzalez.
And McCall thought that it went some way to making up for having what would could have been a winning effort chalked off in the midweek League Cup defeat to Hibs.
"It was a great goal," enthused McCall. "He's worked ever so hard to chase the ball down, cut inside and normally his left foot is just for standing on but he's put it away in the bottom corner.
"He got a great goal the other night against Hibs and unfortunately it was ruled out, wrongly, for offside."
