Colchester United winger Ashley Vincent is set to return to training after seven weeks on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old strained knee ligaments during the 1-1 draw with Wycombe on 6 August, a game in which he scored.

"Ashley has been given the all-clear to join in full training with the rest of the squad," boss John Ward told the club websiteexternal-link.

"He has been involved in training with the squad over the last week or so, but largely on a non-contact basis."

He added: "This very positive news from the specialist means that he is now able to join in all of the training we do with the squad, including the full contact sessions."

Meanwhile, striker Steven Gillespie will be assessed "day to day" on the hamstring injury that ruled him out of Saturday's win over Walsall.
