Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido believes centre-half Tony James will be fit to face Bradford City on Saturday.
James limped out of Saturday's 3-1 defeat against Gillingham with what appeared to be a serious knee injury.
But Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby: "He's progressing alright. He was happy with the way it improved after 24 hours and we're confident he'll be fine."
Meanwhile, fellow defender Nathan Stanton is also close to returning to training after a hamstring injury.
"I think he will start training next week which is a bit of a surprise," Peschisolido added.
"He's been running and sprinting - pretty much doing everything. He wants to push it further so we might see him next week."
